However, the club's longest-serving player may once again have to enter the fray from the substitutes' bench after the Poppies kept up their impressive form with a 1-0 win over Stevenage Borough on Tuesday – their third successive victory.

A dead leg picked up against his former club Rushden & Diamonds nearly two weeks ago saw Solkhon ruled out of the 2-0 win at Cambridge United.

Two more successes since then have left him waiting in the wings.

And, while the popular midfielder will be delighted to reach the milestone should he feature tomorrow, he is more determined to force his way back into the starting line-up.

"I am very proud of the achievement," he said.

"To reach 250 appearances for any club in this day and age, particularly in non-League football, is unheard of really.

"There's only a few who reach that sort of mark with players moving from club to club so regularly so I am delighted with it.

"To win the league last season was a brilliant achievement and it's just great for us to be back in the Conference and doing well.

"It's frustrating to pick up any injury. To do it against my old club after an innocuous challenge was very annoying.

"But the team have carried on doing well and I will continue to do as much as I can to try to get back in there.

"I have been fortunate with injuries since I have been here so I can handle this one coming – even if it did come at a bad time."

Solkhon, meanwhile, can't think of a better setting than the Kassam Stadium to reach his personal landmark.

"The stadium down there is Football League standard and there will be a big crowd as well," he added.

"They also came up here for my testimonial so if I can make my 250th appearance against them it will be extra special."
