New boss Rob Dunion is hoping he can persuade striker Kevin Byrne to return to Rothwell Town this season.
The striker started last season with the Bones and netted seven goals before leaving them after just two months.
But he still finished the season as Rothwell's top scorer –highlighting their chronic goal-scoring problems in BGB Southern League Division One
Midlands last year.
Now, the arrival of Dunion, who Byrne worked with at Corby Town, has seen the player return to Cecil Street for pre-season and he played in the team's 3-0 win over Rothwell Corinthians on Tuesday night.
And with forwards Adam Cunnington and Steve Purton both having left the Cecil Street club Dunion needs to boost his striking options and Byrne has the proven pedigree.
"What you see is what you get with Kevin Byrne. If we can keep him here then obviously that's a god-send," he said.
"We already have Chris Difante and if I can pair him up with Kevin then that's a combination I'd be happy to start with at this level.
"I'm disappointed to lose Adam Cunnington and Steve Purton. But they've made their decisions to go elsewhere and you can't hold players back – particularly if they're moving to a higher level."
Should he sign, Byrne is likely to be the last piece of business Dunion does before the season starts. But he is keeping his options open.
"At this moment in time I would say I probably have finished making signings because I think it's only fair to the lads we have here now to give them their chance.
"But if something comes through then obviously I will look at it.
"We've also had some good discussions with Corby Town and Kettering Town over the prospect of loan deals at some point.
"My own view on loanees has always been 'only if you have to' because it can disrupt as well as benefit us.
"If you bring a guy in for two weeks, you could lose two players as a result.
"But it could also be a real boost to you so it's something I am looking at."
Rothwell continue their pre-season programme tomorrow away to UCL
Premier Division side Cogenhoe United.
