Historians are appealing for more help as they put their hearts and soles into preserving and recording a town's history for posterity.
Rushden historians have already compiled 3,000 pages of information about the town's social history for the Hearts and Soles website which is part of a £49,500 project funded by the Big Lottery.

The website has received nearly 36,000 hits since it
was launched last year, but those working on the project hope people will still continue to come forward with their memories and memorabilia from days gone by in Rushden.

Project co-ordinator Kay Collins said: "We never dreamed that it would be this successful and how much information we have been able to put on the site.

"But there is still lots to do and we hope people will continue to keep coming forward with information."

The site now includes film clips ranging from the memories of former Tennyson Road School for Boys headteacher Bert Catlin to pieces about Rushden Mission Band.

Other features of the site include a history of the town's education and sections on health, leisure, transport, churches, commerce and the shoe trade.

Mrs Collins added: "At the moment we're trying to find out about Rushden's wartime parcel fund and what went into it.

"We'd be keen to hear from anyone who can help us with this.

"We know Rushden people put in a tremendous amount of effort into helping the war effort with their support of the Spitfire Fund, but it would be nice to know what they sent to serving soldiers.

"We are also want to find out more about the swimming pool Rushden had before Splash pool.

"It played a huge role in the community because so many people learned to swim there and it would be great if we could get some photographs of it.

"We'd also like to hear from anyone who has film of the town."

To visit the site go to www.rushdenheritage.co.uk.

Anyone who has information and wants to help should call Mrs Collins on 01933 314112.
