Am appeal against a council's decision to prevent an old factory being demolished will be considered next week.
Helix Lighting Retirement Benefit Fund has appealed against East Northamptonshire Council's decision to prevent it demolishing the Helix Lighting Factory in Wellingborough Road, Rushden.

The company hoped to knock down the building so six shops could be built on the site.

When the council turned down the plans in March, it said it was concerned the development might harm town centre businesses.

Planning committee chairman Sarah Peacock said: "We need to keep the town centre alive and don't feel it is right to have shops on the outskirts of the town."

Helix Lighting says the building is not suitable for modern industry and it has struggled to find a tenant since the building became empty in 2006.

A hearing will be heard by a planning inspector at the council offices in Cedar Drive, Thrapston, at 10am on Tuesday.

Edmondo,

Does the planning committee realise that the town centre hasn't been "alive" for years now, and this proposed development may bring people back into town,
also how come that they allowed shops to be built at Crown Park surely that is on the outskirts of town!
