More than 5,000 people packed into Abington Park for the first Northampton Irish Festival.
Five Irish bands and dance troupes played and entertained the record crowd.

Liz Carroll-Wheat, one of the organisers, said the event, held on Sunday, was a huge success.

She said: "It was the first event of its kind for the Irish community in Northampton and attracted 5,000 people to Abington Park, the biggest attendance to a community event in Abington Park ever.

"Everyone was amazed and delighted with the response."

It was staged by the Northampton Irish Support Group to celebrate 10 years of being in Northampton this year.

Polly Thompson, of Guilsborough, who attended the event, said: "There was such a good atmosphere and everybody had a brill time."
