RESIDENTS are calling on Corby Council to remove an area of grass and use the space to create parking bays.

Families living in Llewellyn Walk, on the Hazel Leys estate, say they encounter problems every day because of the lack of parking spaces.

They say green areas in nearby Daniel Walk and Dobson Walk were removed to provide extra parking space but they have been left out.

Robert McGregor, 73, who lives in Daniel Walk, said: “Back in 1997 we were told by Corby Council that parking bays would be provided, but nothing has materialised in Llewellyn Walk. We’ve been overlooked.

“Every year the problem gets worse. It’s bad enough trying to find a place to park during the day, but at night when people start arriving home from work it’s ridiculous. I had to park my car on a grass verge and was fined.”

The residents say they are worried that if emergency vehicles are needed they won’t have anywhere to park, and that on occasions GPs, who have been called out, have had trouble parking.

Anthony Murphy, 48, of Llewellyn Walk, said: “We don’t need the grass area. It just gets churned up and it looks unsightly. Nobody wants it. The council just keeps telling us there is no money to do the work.”

A spokesman for Corby Council said: “Although off road parking is the responsibility of the county council, the borough council, in response to concerns expressed by residents, funded a number of off-road parking schemes.

“However, in light of the increasing budget pressures faced by the council, this is something we are no longer able to fund.”
