Promotor & DJ Mark Jakes is setting up a new disco night, with a stunning lighting display, for Corby kids between the ages of 13 & 18-years-old. The first event is on Friday 24th February at the Grampian Club, Corby.

A former DJ is launching a new dance night aimed at giving young people a safe place to party.

Mark Jakes is launching Salvation at the Grampian Club, Patrick Road, Corby, this month for 13 to 18-year-olds.

The idea is being backed by the Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs and if the first dance night is a success, Mr Jakes plans to hold one every month.

He said: “I grew up in Corby but moved away for about 15 years and when I came back to the town I could see that there was nothing exclusively for young people to enjoy good music in the town.

“I’ve worked as a DJ and an events promoter and decided there was something I could do to fill the gap.”

The first Salvation night is on Friday, February 24, from 7pm until 10pm.

Soul Movement, a team of DJs, will be supplying the music at the event and admission is £3.

Mr Jakes, a landscape gardener who lives on the Oakley Vale estate, Corby, said: “The Grampian Club is a great venue and the dance party will be held in the main hall. I hoping it’s going to be a big success. I think once word gets round, we’ll have plenty of young people coming along.

“Without anywhere aimed at young people, you get teenagers hanging about the streets and that’s where you can have problems.

“Salvation will be a safe event with no alcohol available.”

Mr Jakes, a father-of-two, said if the new event is successful he hopes to hold an open-air music event in the summer for young people in Corby.

He said: “I plan to bring DJs in from outside the area and make it something special.

“Young people in Corby really need a place where they can go, and I’m sure parents will welcome it too.”

Tickets will be on sale on at the night at the door and anyone who would like more information about Salvation is asked to telephone Mr Jakes on 07894 387533.
