Youngsters jump to it for sports day

More than 400 pupils have been going for gold at their annual sports day.

Staff and pupils at Studfall Junior School, Rowlett Road, Corby, decided to have a selection of traditional and more unusual races devised by the children.

Year 5 pupils took part in a nappy race, where they had to run with towels wrapped around them while they carried a bottle and dummy.

Year 3 children wore animal masks and ran like the creatures they picked.

Other classes took part in an It's a knockout-style event.

Headteacher Kim Kirchin said: "It was a really great day. We wanted to keep a competitive element but also have fun.

"All 440 pupils at the school took part in the sports day and we had a mixture of races.

"The teachers were running alongside the pupils encouraging them in the races and there were 500 to 600 parents, friends and family cheering on from the sidelines.

"Our field was packed out."

The school also started a balloon race at the sports day, where pupils, parents and friends could buy a balloon in aid of the school council.

Dozens of balloons were released on the day and reports are already coming back of people finding them.

One balloon has been found in Great Yarmouth.
