X-Factor stars Olly Murs and Danyl Johnson invited to train with Diamonds

Two X Factor rivals could fight it out on the football pitch as well as under the Saturday night spotlight after being invited to show off their ball skills by a football club.

Football fans and singing sensations Olly Murs and Danyl Johnson, from the popular ITV show, have been invited to a training session at the Rushden & Diamonds ground after discovering they enjoyed making fun of each other's soccer skills.

Rushden & Diamonds manager, Justin Edinburgh, has extended an unofficial invite to Olly and Danyl to visit the ground in Irthlingborough.

The news reached the singers after Mr Edinburgh bumped into Olly's manager, and the Rushden & Diamonds boss said he would love to have the boys visit the ground.

He said: "I am from Essex like Olly so when I bumped into a friend of mine who knows Olly I mentioned it and I think it must have got back to him. He must have then said something to Danyl about coming, but nothing has happened as yet.

"It is certainly something we would consider. Any publicity is good publicity for the club and it would be good fun to have them join in at a training session.

"The offer is out there, but whether it is taken up or not who knows."

Mr Edinburgh, who watches the show with his family, would not only be thrilled to meet Olly and Danyl, but thinks it would be a positive move for the town.

He said: "It would be very good for the club and for the town.

"The show has generated a lot of interest. The viewings are going through the roof so we do know that if they came down there would be thousands of people including myself who would be eager to see them."

According to the ITV website, Olly and Danyl have not only become rivals on the stage but when it comes to football too.

Danyl, whose hometown club is Reading FC apparently told ITV he couldn't wait to come up to the Rushden & Diamonds ground and show Olly he isn't as good as he thinks he is on the pitch.
