We're doing this for brave Mum

Two brothers have organised a charity football match to raise money for a cancer hospital unit in honour of their mum, who is battling the disease.

Ben Allington, 20, and brother Harry, 18, will be taking to the field in honour of their mum Rebecca on Sunday at the Rushden and Higham United ground, in Hayden Road, Rushden, at 2pm.

Their team of family and friends, including their dad Nick, will be taking on a Weetabix select team which will feature Darren Collins, who played for Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town, and Neil Edwards, who

used to play for Wolves.

In a defiant move, they want to raise as much money as possible for The Woodlands Trust Cancer Care Unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, after Mrs Allington was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer in June.

The 46-year-old beat breast cancer four years ago, but in a bitter blow she has now been told she may only live until Christmas.

Determined to remain upbeat, the brothers, with the support of their sister Katie, 16, are now concentrating their efforts on being there for their mum and raising money for the hospital.

Ben, of Scotland Road, Kettering, said: "It's our way of giving back to the hospital that has cared for our mum.

"We want people to come down and support this really worthwhile cause because it will benefit so many local people who are suffering with cancer."

Her diagnosis has come as a shock to her three children and it hasn't been an easy ride for the family, but their mum's fighting spirit has inspired them to remain strong.

Harry, of Wainwright Avenue in Thrapston, said: "You never see her upset or moping around, and when she's around we just cope. It is difficult seeing mum going through what she's going through, but we want to be strong for her."

Katie added: "I am very proud of my brothers for organising this match and I will be there on the day to cheer them on."

There will be a 2 admission charge to the match, which will also feature an auction of a signed Ian Rush shirt and a raffle, an open bar and a barbecue. It is being sponsored by Ben's employer, Witherley Services.
