Volunteers join police in desperate hunt for missing Oundle woman

Extensive searches will be carried out again today for missing Oundle woman Gillian Merrick, who has not been seen since New Year's Day.

Around 50 volunteers will again be joining police in searches later this morning, in a bid to find Mrs Merrick.

Police officers specially trained in search techniques will lead the hunt across fields, outbuildings and sheds in the Oundle area while further police officers carry out enquiries to try to establish where Mrs Merrick may be.

She was last seen at her home at about 11pm on New Year's Day. It is thought that she was wearing a beige coloured jacket, red scarf and gloves.

Mrs Merrick is 45, about 5ft6" tall, slim, of fair complexion, with collar length brown, straight hair.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Cox said: "We are very grateful to have so many volunteers here who are concerned about Gillian Merrick and want to help us find her.

"We are carrying out a painstaking search and would like everyone who lives in the area to check their sheds, outbuildings and anywhere else where she may have taken shelter from the cold."

Gillian, or anyone who may know where she is, is asked to contact police on 08453 700 700.
