Two men badly beaten up in sparate gang attacks in Rushden

A man was knocked unconscious and another was left battered and bruised after being attacked by gangs of youths in two separate attacks in Rushden.

In the first brutal robbery, a takeaway delivery driver was set upon by 10 youths who stole his food and beat him with a weapon of some kind.

The 32-year-old victim was repeatedly kicked and punched and is recovering in hospital with serious bruising to his head, face and body.

The attack happened in Windsor Road at about 10pm on Sunday. Less than three hours later, another man was badly beaten.

The 30-year-old was walking along Higham Road at 12.45pm when he was approached by six youths.

He was also repeatedly punched and kicked, leaving him badly bruised, and two mobile phones were stolen from him.

Northamptonshire Police say they are keeping an open mind about whether the two attacks are linked.

Sgt Alison Farr said: "Police are stepping up patrols in both these areas after these attacks. We would like to assure residents we will be working extremely hard to bring these offenders to justice."

Officers believe the weapon used in the first attack, which is not believed to be a knife, could have been thrown away in the area and are appealing for anyone who finds anything suspicious to contact then.

Witnesses are asked to call police on 08453 700700.
