Town to help job seekers find work
Job seekers in Rushden will be given a helping hand to find work.
East Northamptonshire Council has joined forces with Jobcentre Plus to organise an event aimed at helping people in Rushden who have been made redundant.
The Find Your Way Back to Work event will take place on Thursday, July 9, from 10am to 4pm, at the Wesleyan Church Hall in Queen Street.
Jobseekers will be given advice and information about the range of help and support available to them.
Employers such as Leonard Cheshire Disability and Group 4 Security and recruitment agencies such as Blue Arrow will also be there offering jobs, some of which have immediate starts.
Jobcentre Plus manager Sandra Hockley said: "We have a vital role to play in helping people during the current economic situation. This event shows people the range of help and support available to get them back to work and also promotes job vacancies and training opportunities."
Jobcentre Plus partner organisations, such as Evolve Your Future, will be at the event to offer practical help with careers advice, CV writing, interviewing skills and job hunting techniques.
Business Link staff will be on hand to discuss starting your own business and a range of organisations will offer advice on training opportunities.
East Northamptonshire Council workers will also be present, providing advice and information for people who have concerns about housing issues and household costs.
Business transformation and economic development member Cllr Philip Hardcastle said: "In these difficult times it is of great importance to East Northamptonshire Council to make every effort to support those in our community who are seeking employment. So we welcome the opportunity to join with Jobcentre Plus to host this event."
The Find Your Way back to Work event in Rushden follows a number of successful events across the north of the county.
In January, one was held in Wellingborough and more than 400 people attended.
On June 17, Kettering's event saw 300 people looking for jobs and on June 27 there were 365 people at the Corby event.
Theresa Potter, of Irchester Road, Rushden, was made redundant from Alfred Sargents shoe firm at the end of last year. She said: "I think the event is a very good idea, especially if it will help more people find jobs. It is nice to have some support and I will be going along."
Anyone who cannot attend or who would like more information can ring Rushden Jobcentre Plus on 01933 333 900.
