Time capsule unearthed at old school
Builders at the new Corby Tresham College discovered a blast from the past when they unearthed a time capsule at the site of the former Corby Community College.
The box was discovered at the site in Oakley Road by workers from BAM who are demonlishing the old school buildings to make way for the new 35m pound Tresham College.
The capsule included photographs of the uniform and school building as well as copies of the Evening Telegraph, a register and a diary of a pupil who was at the school at the time.
Olivia Morton from the college said: "We are letting the items from the capsule dry and then we will be donating it to Corby Heritage Centre.
"In the capsule there was a diary, which is quite interesting. There is a bit in it about a boy who was asked out to a school disco by a girl but said no."
It is believed the box was buried in 1992 and was to be dug up in 2002 but was left buried because one of the tutors involved in the project could not be tracked down.
A new time capsule is now being prepared and will be buried on the new campus over the next few months. It will include a selection of photos and information on the history of Tresham in Corby.
This will include information and photos about the current site at George Street in Corby, as well as information about the development and works currently happening at the site in Oakley Road.
Photos stand test of time
The Evening Telegraph's chief photographer Alison Bagley covered the opening of the time capsule yesterday and found some of her photographs inside.
In a plastic bag were shots she had taken of its burial in 1992.
She said: "They must have dug it back up a few days later and put them in. I had only been at the Evening Telegraph for three years then and I've been here for 21 years now. I fixed them well with chemicals because they hadn't faded."
