Thief admits taking tuna, toothbrush and painkillers
A thief has been jailed after admitting stealing an electric toothbrush, 24 packs of painkillers and four portions of tuna.
Peter Ward, 28, of Silverwood Road, Kettering, appeared before Northampton Magistrates yesterday where he pleaded guilty to three charges of theft and one charge of handling stolen goods.
Appearing in court via a video link, Ward admitted stealing the toothbrush, valued at 195, from Boots in the Grosvenor Centre, Northampton, on November 4.
Prosecuting, Colin McGregor told the court that Ward had also stolen some batteries, DVDs and four packs of tuna from the Lidl supermarket in Kettering on December 16, last year.
Ward, who is currently in custody at Woodhill Prison, also pleaded guilty to a third charge of stealing 24 packs of Nurofen, worth 50, from the Co-Op in Desborough on April 13.
He also pleaded guilty to a charge of handling stolen goods, after being arrested while behind the wheel of a stolen Fiat Panda, valued at 5,000.
The presiding magistrate, Arthur Ellis, sentenced Ward to 10 weeks in custody for the charge of handling stolen goods.
He was also sentenced to four weeks in prison for each of the three charges of theft. The sentences will run concurrently.
