Theatre is in the black
The Castle theatre in Wellingborough made a profit of around £20,000 in the last three months on 2009 – compared with a £38,000 loss in the same period the year before.
The figures have been revealed in the latest report looking at the theatre's financial situation.
The Evening Telegraph reported in July that bosses at the theatre were expecting to soon turn the corner after having to cut jobs, freeze staff pay, reduce opening hours and make savings.
The latest report, which will be discussed by Wellingborough Council's community committee tonight, says a number of cost-cutting measures and new working practices have contributed to the theatre making a profit.
Reducing the number of shows performed at the theatre has led to a reduction in costs.
At the same time this has allowed efforts to be concentrated on making the remaining shows a success.
The report warns cash flow still needs to be managed carefully because customers are not booking tickets in advance.
The Castle's executive director Gail Arnott said: "We are not yet seeing an increase in audience numbers, but to achieve a 58,000 turnaround in profitability over the three months that have just been reported, says a lot about the hard work of the whole team here at The Castle.
"More importantly we have not reduced the quality of the work we are producing, with The Jungle Book surpassing the excitement and the wow factor of previous Christmas shows."
