A busy theatre society is making preparations for its next big show less than two weeks after finishing its successful run of Aladdin.

The cast and crew of Rushden Amateur Theatrical Society (RATS) should be taking a well-earned rest after staging eight performances of the popular panto in a week, but they are keen to continue celebrating their 50th year in style and are now working on The Celebrations of 50 Pantomimes.

RATS member Russell Green said: “Aladdin was an absolutely great start to our 50th anniversary celebrations.

“Half of the shows were completely sold out and the rest were well-attended too.

“Every night I felt great because there were so many smiling, beaming faces – I thought our cast did a fantastic job.

“We’re now looking ahead to our next big celebration of our special anniversary.”

The Celebrations of 50 Pantomimes will be held in the first week of July and will be the society’s way of celebrating the 50 years it has been performing live theatre in Rushden through a series of songs and sketches from past shows.

The society will be throwing open the stage to all its current and former members, of all ages, and asking them what they would like to perform.

Mr Green said: “It should be a fantastic show. It will feature highlights from our shows over the past 50 years, including musical numbers.

“I’m not sure where our cast gets the energy from to throw themselves into another show this quickly and as soon as that one is finished they’ll begin rehearsing for Beauty and the Beast which we will perform at the beginning of 2013.”

The Celebrations of 50 Pantomimes will be staged at the Pemberton Centre in H E Bates Way.

Past members of the society who want to take part, or who have suggestions for the show, can call John Curson on 01933 387805 or email celebration-50@rushden-rats.co.uk. Alternatively, call Brian Robson on 01933 356500 or email chairman@rushden-rats.co.uk.

The society is also keen to hear from prospective members, aged 12 and upwards, especially males.
