Splash park set to open at weekend

A popular splash park which was closed for repairs could re-open this weekend.

The park, which is on the Embankment in Wellingborough, was shut last week because of a technical problem with the disinfection system.

But a spokesman for Wellingborough Council said they hoped to get it fixed by Saturday.

The splash park is a popular spot for children to come and play during spells of good weather.

A spokesman for the local authority said: "The park is currently undergoing repairs to fix a minor technical problem involving the disinfection system.

"We are now awaiting the delivery of new parts, and hope to have the problem fixed by Saturday.

"However, this all depends on when the new parts arrive, so we cannot rule out any potential delays. The re-opening of the park will be publicised when the problem has been fixed.

"Once re-opened, people will be free to enjoy the cool fountains yet again, which will certainly come in handy if this glorious weather continues."

Parent David Roberts, of Wellingborough, said: "We've used it in the past and it's a shame it's shut at the moment.

"It's been a few years since we've been down there but the children used to enjoy using it."

Grandparent Mick Foster, 63, of Butts Road, Wellingborough, added: "It's been really well used since the area was changed into the splash park a couple of years ago.

"Before that it was just an ordinary paddling pool and it wasn't sealed off so anyone could get in there at night-time and I think there were problems with bottles going in it.

"The splash park is now a real focal point for Wellingborough and I hope it will open again soon because I'm sure the children are missing it badly."
