immigration raid at car wash
A GROUP of six people were detained after immigration officers swooped at a car wash.
They were detained by a Border and Immigration Office team at 11.30am yesterday at a car wash in Carina Way, near the Tesco supermarket off the A14 in Kettering.
The operation, which is the latest in a series of raids by immigration officers in the county who have pledged to step up action against illegal immigrants, took place in front of shoppers going to the store.
Officers from Northamptonshire Police also attended to provide support.
The latest incident follows at least three others this year in the north of the county.
In January, illegal immigrants believed to be from Iran or Iraq were detained after jumping from a lorry in Wellingborough, and two Slovakian drivers were arrested on suspicion of assisting them.
In July, police took 12 immigrants into custody and a further two to hospital after they were discovered inside a lorry on the Park Farm industrial estate in Wellingborough.
On May 28 three Indian men were detained after being found working illegally in a KFC restaurant in Kettering.
