Scott turns ash into dash to raise cash

An energetic runner who used to smoke up to 40 cigarettes a day is covering more than 100km to raise vital funds for charity.

Scott Hall, 39, is currently in the process of running 120km in four different races in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Mr Hall, a car bodywork repairer of Warkton Way, Corby, decided to take on the mammoth challenge after losing both parents to the disease.

He took up running after spotting a poster for a half marathon in aid of Cransley Hospice, where his mother Jessie Hall died in 2006.

He said: “I was a heavy smoker, on 40 a day and I couldn’t even run 200m.

“I’m hoping to raise as much money as possible. I’ve set myself a £500 target and already have about £380 so hopefully I’ll beat that.”

The runner, a member of Corby Athletics Club, has already completed the Folksworth 15 mile run near Peterborough on January 22.

He was unable to take on his second challenge, the Stamford Striders St Valentines 30k run, as it was cancelled due to snow but this did not stop Mr Hall making up the 30km by running with his athletics club members.

His next feat is due to be the off-road gruelling Grizzly Run in Devon on March 11 before competing in his third London Marathon.

He will be cheered on by friends and family including his partner Malin and his daughter Leah, 10.

He added: “The way I look at it is every penny counts and you don’t know what pound it will be that finds a cure or finds something to ease the suffering.”
