Schools get good marks

Schools across Corby are celebrating after receiving their Key Stage 2 results, although a number have shown room for improvement.

Youngsters in Northamptonshire performed better in the Key Stage 2 exams this year than last, with many schools having more than 90 per cent of pupils reaching a level four or above in English, maths and science.

Children and staff at St Patrick's Catholic Primary School in Corby are among those celebrating after maintaining their good record in the Key Stage Two tests for the third year.

The school was one of a handful in the county at which 100 per cent of the pupils passed exams in English, maths and science at a level four or higher.

Headteacher Chris Latimer said he was pleased with the performance of his pupils.

He said: "It's just down to teaching and hard work. Our kids are great and we put an awful lot of effort into making sure they enjoy school, not just academically – we give them extra curricular activities so they want to go to school, which has a positive effect on what happens.

Other schools which scored highly included Old Village Primary School, where 90 per cent achieved level 4 or above in English, 85 per cent did the same in maths and 95 per cent in science.

At Weldon CofE Primary School, 93 per cent of pupils reached level 4 or above in English, 80 per cent in maths and 97 per cent in science.
