School praised by Ofsted inspectors

Staff and pupils are celebrating after their school was praised in an Ofsted inspection.

Montsaye Community College in Rothwell was visited by inspectors last month.

The report praised the school, saying its performance was outstanding in three areas which included the steps the schools has taken to improve the care of pupils.

Headteacher Sue Fennell said: "This is a testimony to the hard work of the students and staff at Montsaye combined with the support of parents, carers and the wider community.

"Thank you and well done to everybody.

"Since September last year the framework for Ofsted inspections has become much more rigorous.

"In that context to be given an overall judgment of good with a number of outstanding features being referred to throughout the report is a real achievement."

Inspectors were impressed with the work the college does with a diverse range of groups in the local and wider community.

The report said: "This good school is at the heart of its community, with outstanding partnerships that benefit children, young people and adults associated with it."

The report went on to say that pupils enjoyed learning and lessons at the school.

It added: "The very large majority of students enjoy school life and most of them learn well.

"Students behave well in lessons and around the school."

Inspectors also said there was a good relationship between the teachers and the pupils.

Overall, the school was given a good rating and a good rating for its "capacity for improvement".

The inspection team also praised the steps staff had taken to improve the care of its students and vertical tutoring – where pupils from different year groups work together.

It said: "Students value the one-to-one mentoring opportunities and younger students value the role models and support of older pupils."
