Rushden Library needs volunteers
Rushden Manga Mania Club Library: Bethany Hunter, 13 and club members. 16/02/12
A library is trying to attract more support from the public by hosting a range of different events.
Rushden Library is appealing for more people to become volunteers and to join its Friends group.
It hopes by boosting its number of supporters it can organise more fundraisers and events but in the meantime staff have been hard at work running a series of holiday activities for children and young people.
Supervisor Debbie Foster said: “One of the big events we had recently was the second birthday celebration for our Manga Club. It is made up of talented young adults. We’ve got a wide selection of Manga books and the group usually meets once a month. We also held a pancake party which was fun.”
The library is trying to support the community by setting up a Change Zone which is a collection of books aimed at helping people to find work or change their careers.
It is looking for volunteers with a range of skills and is particularly keen to attract greeters who welcome visitors, and people who can assist in rhyme time and story sessions.
Mrs Foster said: “We need to do more fundraising and we need more public support. There are people in need of work and we hope if they help us it will help them find work.”
On March 6 Mrs Foster will talk to visitors about becoming a volunteer or a Friend.
