Robberies on the rise as crime falls overall

Police bosses have spoken about tackling crime and the latest crime statistics in their monthly podcasts.

Crime overall for the latest three-month period is down by about 7.4 per cent – from an average of 2,398 crimes across the county each month to 2,222.

Insp Gary Williams, in charge of Corby policing district, where crime fell by 17.8 per cent, said: "Anti-social behaviour is still falling.

We have nearly 400 fewer incidents compared to last year. We're receiving really positive feedback about the impact of our work."

East Northamptonshire saw an overall drop in crime of 13 per cent. Inspector for the area Nick Lyall said: "Please don't make crime easy for criminals this summer."

In Wellingborough, crime overall was down by 3.7 per cent.

Insp Pete Chisholm said: "Earls Barton hit a high with 24 offences of sheds and greenhouses being entered on allotments. We'd like to hear from anyone who has information about this."

And Kettering Inspector Rick Aistrop whose area saw an increase in crime, said: "Our safer community teams have dealt with issues including suspected drug dealing in Arthur's Way and underage drinking in Rockingham Road Pleasure Park."
