Redundancy threat to 260 jobs at Corby crisp factory
Up to 264 jobs in Corby have been put under threat of redundancy with the announcement that Tayto is to cease production at its crisp manufacturing plant in the town.
The decision follows the cancellation of the only contract at the factory by Proctor and Gamble to manufacture Pringles Minis.
Workers at the plant were informed of the decision this afternoon. (Wednesday)
Tayto, which bought the factory from Golden Wonder, which pulled out of Corby in January 2006, will now be consulting with staff, union representatives, and investment agencies over the proposed job losses.

It has also served notice to a further 300 employees at the group's manufacturing plant in Wednesbury, near Bromwich, as part of the review.
Colin Pope, group site director at Corby, said: "Tayto Group has entered into a three-month consultation period with all employees at both plants, as required by law, however it is anticipated that around half these jobs will be saved.".
"Proctor & Gamble's decision offers us a potential opportunity to accelerate the group's long term business plans to consolidate some of its production. The snack market is very competitive and dynamic, and this review will significantly strengthen our position in the sector.
"The consultation period with employees and union representatives will accommodate a meaningful assessment of production at Corby and Wednesbury, including the possibility that both sites could be merged."
A spokesman for the group said that one of the options they will be looking at is whether to move productioin from Wednesbury to Corby, but this could take as long as next year to happen.
Corby Council chief executive Chris Mallender said: "On the face of it this is more bad employment news for Corby, but we are confident that the business case will speak for itself and in the medium term jobs will be safeguarded for the town.
"We don't blame Tayto for this; the problem is with Proctor & Gamble.
"Tayto is a good employer and positive about investing in Corby but they have had to react to a decision by Proctor & Gamble to cast aside a workforce that has been loyal to it over so many years."
