Pride nomination for my brave son
A woman who has thrown herself into fundraising after the death of her baby son has been nominated for a Pride in Northamptonshire award.
Rebecca Jeffery, of The Rowe, Higham Ferrers, recently raised thousands of pounds for a charity which funds research into ichthyosis after her son Freddie Patenall died from the condition a year ago when he was just 12 weeks old.
She held a buggy walk at Stanwick Lakes which was attended by more than 100 people on the anniversary of Freddie's birth.
On being told she was nominated for the Evening Telegraph's awards to find unsung heroes and extraordinary people, Miss Jeffery, 30, said she would dedicate any win to her late son.
She said: "It is an honour to be nominated, but this is dedicated to my son because everything I do is in his memory and because of his bravery.
"It's not really me who has raised this money – it's because of him.
"The charity is important because it raises awareness of the conditions and so many people don't know what it is, but you don't know when it is going to affect you.
"It is also important because the medical profession don't really have a clue about it either.
"There are just two paediatric dermatologists in the UK who specialise in the conditions and one of them is retiring this year."
Anyone who wants to put forward individuals and groups they think deserve an award can go online to www2.ketteringtoday.co.uk/pride10 or email et.exhibitions@northantsnews.co.uk.
