Premiere of film on young mums

Young mums starred in a film about their experiences which has had its premiere in Corby.

The first showing of The Next Best Steps for Teenage Parents took place at The Core theatre yesterday.

It features teenage parents and their children at Eden Park, in Elizabeth Street, in the town, which offers temporary housing to those who are vulnerable or homeless.

The 17-minute film was made by Enterprise Coaching, a University of Northampton scheme, and was funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

There was a screening at 3pm for professionals, including health visitors, social workers, police officers, teachers and Corby Council’s neighbourhood wardens.

At 5.30pm there was a second showing for the family and friends of present and past Eden Court residents, its staff and the Enterprise Coaching team.

Enterprise coach Adel Foster began filming last June with young mums and completed the project in January.

She said: “The aim was to promote Eden Park and the great work that it does to help teenage parents and to produce a film which can be used as an educational tool. Professionals who attended the screening were given a copy of the film as a gift so they can use it when dealing with young people who need help.

“They will be able to show them what Eden Park has to offer. We wanted to show what life is like in the complex and the support available.”

The teenage stars were filmed at Eden Park, which is made up of 12 one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom flat and has indoor and outdoor play areas. The complex is funded by Supporting People.
