Poppies' delight at Fulham FA Cup draw

Kettering Town fans are hoping their team can cause an upset after being drawn against Premier League Fulham in the FA Cup.

Fingers were crossed and breath held during the fourth round draw yesterday, when supporters packed into the Poppies social club at the A-Line Arena.

Cheers went up every time a Premiership giant was drawn as excited fans hoped for the game of their lives.

But with Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea drawn early on, Kettering were one of the last eight to be pulled out.

Much to the delight of fans, it will be a home game against ninth-placed Fulham, with some hoping for a lucrative Craven Cottage replay.

Jubilant fans immediately started chanting "Bring on Fulham" in preparation for the big game.

Poppies fan Paul Andrews, of St Matthew's Road, has been following Kettering Town for 30 years.

He said: "Unfortunately it's not Manchester United or Arsenal but it's still a Premiership side at home.

"It will be very, very difficult but hopefully we can get the replay and go down to Fulham – we could even do some shopping in Harrods.

"The people of Kettering need to get behind the club and hopefully Kettering Council will support us in getting a new stadium."

Fellow Poppies supporter Angie Merry said she has to work on match days but will be keeping an eager eye on the scoreline.

She said: "I'm really pleased with the draw.

"We've got a better chance here at home. It was a shame not to get one of the big four but we've got a Premiership team so that's great."

Fans were eager to hear the news about tickets for the match, with one fan describing the tie as "mouth-watering".

Poppies midfielder Brett Solkhon said: "Maybe we can cause an upset."
