Police warning after five attacks in the town

Women are being warned not to walk alone in Wellingborough following a series of sexual assaults.

Police fear there could be even more victims still to come forward of a sex attacker who is roaming the town’s streets looking for victims.

Five women have reported being assaulted since the beginning of January at various locations across the town between the hours of 10pm and 5.30am.

All of the victims were walking on their own from the town centre when they were followed by the offender, who then exposed himself before indecently assaulting the victims.

Police hunting the attacker are appealing for witnesses and urging the public to be alert. They fear the offender, described as being a white man aged between 17 and 30, might be growing in confidence.

Det Insp Ali Reynolds said: “We don’t think he’s got a car so we think he’s been walking everywhere. He is clearly covering a big area and walking around all night.

“There is no specific pattern to his offending. Incidents have happened both in the week and at weekends, and sometimes there will be a 10-day break before another incident is reported.

“There is always a concern that these offences could get more serious and he could move on to more serious incidents.

“If you have also been the victim of such a crime but not yet reported it to us then please make contact with us.”

Officers and detectives are conducting extra patrols in a bid to catch the suspect.

Det Insp Reynolds added: “We would like to reassure the public that we are doing all we can to find this man as quickly as possible.

“We would also ask the public to help us to prevent any further incidents by taking simple steps to improve their own personal safety. Women and girls should avoid walking alone late at night or in the early hours. Invest in a personal safety alarm which can be bought online and cost as little as £5.

“Patrols of the area will be ongoing and Wellingborough Safer Community Team will be running a Have Your Say event at Morrisons on Saturday between 11am and 2pm. Officers will be on hand to offer advice to anyone who may have concerns about their safety or that of a loved one. Personal safety advice is also available from Wellingborough police station front desk.”

It is hardly helpful turning this into a race issue. Returning to the story, instead of the onus being put completely on women to look after their own safety perhaps the council could help by TURNING THE STREET LIGHTS BACK ON! The safety of everybody in the community should always come before saving a bit of cash. If it meant my council tax going up by a few pounds then frankly it would be a small price to pay rather than running the risk of being attacked or falling down a pothole if going out after dark.

Victor Stirling has obviously missed the influx of , Croats, Poles, Serbs, Romanians, Russians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Latvians and Ukrainians that have appeared in W'boro and indeed the rest of the county.....What colour are these people Victor ?

Five incidents and no leads? I find this hard to believe, this man has to be caught and a stop put to his antics before someone is seriously injured. I had read about this on the BBC website and was surprised not to have seen it on here previously.

Nice try 3Thr33s, but your feeble attempt to place a race angle on this story fails at the first hurdle, as, if you had understood the article (which I doubt), the offender is described as a white male. Better luck next time!

Why has this only just been brought to the public's attention when it's been happening since January?
