Plans to resolve row over access
A proposed solution to an ongoing dispute over access to a school has been given a boost.
Barton Seagrave Parish Council has backed proposals for a revised footpath to allow easier access to Barton Seagrave Primary School.
Latimer Arts College in Barton Seagrave has constructed a fence around its site to improve pupil safety and control access to the site.
However, parents have raised some concerns that the new fence means they can't use the site as a cut-through to the primary school.
A group which runs a campaign online at www.latimerfence.org.uk has proposed creating a new footpath from Leeson Crescent through to Belvoir Drive.
The proposed new footpath would need to link the existing footpath to the north of the Masque Theatre to the footpath entrance already in place on Leeson Crescent.
Campaigners also want a new footpath to be introduced from the north of the theatre to the east of the playground at the primary school.
The group says it would improve access and enable the school buildings to remain secure.
The parish council approved the plans at their meeting on Thursday.
Group member Kirstie Holland said: "The community of Barton Seagrave,
the parish council and the county council are all in agreement as to the solution that meets everyone's needs."
Parent Paul Lashmar welcomed the move and said: "I look forward to the school reviewing this plan in an objective manner and hope they will work positively with the parish council and the community to seek a resolution."
A meeting is being planned to present the plans to Latimer Arts College.
Nobody from the college was available to comment.
