Pinpointing health service priorities

Pupils at Lodge Park Technology College have been having their say on the future of the NHS.

Members of NHS Northamptonshire visited the school in Shetland Way, Corby as part a scheme to involve young people in the way it plans its different health services and priorities.

The visit also tied in with the College's Citizenship Curriculum, and gave the students a chance to have their say on future healthcare priorities and for members of the health service to understand how young people feel it should tackle health issues affecting Corby's youth.

It also allowed members of the health service to see how the pupils used technology and discuss ways this could be used in the future to make the NHS more efficient and relevant to young people.

Head of citizenship Hugo Goodson said: "One of the really important parts of our citizenship curriculum at Lodge Park is for students to have a chance to be active citizens who can make a difference to the community around them – this presentation from the NHS gave them that opportunity."

Director of communications for NHS Northamptonshire Jane Meggitt said: "This was an opportunity for us to educate young people about what we do but also for us to learn how young people would like us to communicate with them. It is important they feel the local NHS is as much for young people as it is for other age groups."
