Music festival to boost charities

A fundraising festival will see hundreds of music-lovers heading to Corby.

The Foundry Festival will mark the start of the summer festival season this year.

It will be held at Stewart and Lloyds football ground in Occupation Road, Corby, on Saturday, May 15.

There will be 13 bands playing on the main stage and seven DJs in a dance tent.

Proceeds from the event will go the Lakelands Hospice in Butland Road, Corby, as well as S&L Football Club, the oldest in the town.

Community fundraiser for the hospice Julia Rattigan said: "The festival will raise vital funds for patient care at the hospice and for S&L football club.

"It is going to be a fantastic day with something for the whole family."

Bands performing on the day will include Corby and Kettering-based alternative band My First Radio, as well as The Uptown Decadence Unit from Northampton.

Southern Attic, who rocked the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Indie Group Common Courtney will also be playing sets at the event.

DJs playing in the tent include Corby-based DJ Egoiste, who has played in Ibiza, Al Comelly and DJ Ozzy.

There will also be activities for younger visitors, including face painting, arts and crafts and milkshakes from Crazy Udder.

There will be a mini-market, food vans, a bouncy castle, a bar, laser quest, balloon making and more for all the family.

Student Laura Whaite, 17, from the Shire Lodge estate, said: "Me and my mates will be going.

"We go to the WeldonFest every year and it's brilliant so we'll definitely go to this one too.

"Corby needs more things like this.

"There's always a really good atmosphere and it's even better if the weather is nice.

"There are a lot of good bands in Corby but they don't always get a lot of publicity so it's nice that some local bands are going to be playing on a big stage in the town."

Her friend Mia Longdin, 17, said: "It will be good for the teenagers in the town because they don't get to go to the gigs in the pubs.

"There isn't really a big venue in Corby where the bands can play so this is going to be brilliant.

"I just really hope we get some sunshine for it. Outdoor events are always better when the weather's good.

"There will be a tent so I guess we could go in there if it starts raining."

Tickets are 10 for adults, 8 for children under the age of 16 and there will be no charge for the under 5s.

Tickets can be bought at Lakelands Emporium, New Post Office Square, Corby, and from Lakelands Hospice in Butland Road, on the Oakley Vale estate.
