More than 100 jobs at risk at fashion firm
More than 100 jobs in Northamptonshire could be put at risk if Aquascutum, the British fashion retailer, falls into the hands of a Chinese company.
The firm, which was launched almost 160 years ago, employs 120 people at its factory in Corby making high-end clothing.
For the past 19 years it has been owned by Japanese firm Renown, but the group has been facing financial difficulties and is believed to be in talks to sell the brand to Chinese firm YGM Trading.
On Friday, Aquascutum's British boss, Kim Winser, announced she was to leave the firm after spearheading a rival bid which collapsed after 12 months negotiations.
Aquascutum employs about 400 people in the UK, and has annual sales of about 200 million.
It produced the first waterproof wool in 1853 and supplied the coats for officers in the Crimean War.
Fans have included Baroness Thatcher, Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant, while its current ambassador is former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan.
