Masked robbers with baseball bats ram-raided a vehicle compound, threatened a security guard and then stole three valuable 4x4 cars in an early morning attack.

Three men were involved in the raid at Paragon Automotive Ltd, in Baird Road, Corby, at about 3.45am yesterday.

They stole three Range Rover Sport vehicles worth about £45,000 each.

The offenders cut a hole in a fence leading to the firm’s premises, then used a vehicle to ram the inner compound and steal the three vehicles – a model of car often favoured by Premier League footballers.

The offenders are believed to have been carrying baseball bats and engaged in a verbal argument with the security guard, although no-one was injured during the robbery.

The Evening Telegraph understands the vehicles were fitted with tracking devices and one has since been recovered outside the county.

Paragon Automotive Ltd is a fleet vehicle management company and specialises in dealing with large volumes of cars across several sites in the UK.

PC Vincent Bangs, an immediate response officer based at Corby, tweeted shortly after the raid, saying: “We have just had three Land Rovers stolen from a secure compound.

“The security guard was threatened by one of them with a baseball bat.”

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated robbery, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Baird Road, Corby.

“One of the vehicles taken was blue in colour and the other two were white. They are estimated to be worth £45,000 each.”

Witnesses or anyone with information can call Northamptonshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Nobody from Paragon Automotive Ltd was available to comment yesterday.

I was a bit sceptical about the article, regarding the use of twitter, but any form of publicity on acts of crime can only be a good thing, as people who follow, or use the likes of Facebook etc are made aware of incidents in the area and can be more vigilant. Maybe more crimes that have been committed should be posted like this, and the detection rate might increase. Did the 4x4's get recovered?

I would also like to add, if you look at the story again, it does say, "tweeted shortly after the raid". And if you have a look at the tweet you will see it was posted by an HTC android phone, not a computer.

Hi Mellboy. Pc Bangs here. Thanks for your vote of confidence. I can confirm that I tweeted about the incident once it had been dealt with. I can assure you when a job like this comes in we respond as quickly as we can. If you want to get an insight into how we work, rather than making assumptions feel free to contact me and I will take you out for a shift. However we will have to do a background check on you first.

Perhaps it was PC Bangs job that day to sit at the desk and take calls? They do not all go to chase the bad men. You are confusing them with keystone kops? Anyway by tweeting it straight away someone may have been driving behind said vehicles and been able to provide information as to where the vehicles were heading.

All vehicles onsite with high value should have a Tracker installed as standard. Vehicle theft is on the rise, we always go out installing Trackers for customers who've had their car stolen and regret not having one previously . www.trackermonitor.co.uk have great advice and upto date news on stolen vehicle recovery systems.
