Man arrested following arson attack in Wellingborough
A man has been arrested in connection with a fire in Wellingborough during the early hours of this morning.
Firefighters were called to an arson attack on a house in Fulmar Lane, Wellingborough, just before 3am today.
Four men were in the house at the time, but managed to escape without injury.
However, the blaze caused extensive damage to the property.
It comes just 24 hours after an arson attack in Alexandra Road, Wellingborough, yesterday at about 2am.
A police spokesman said: "There is no evidence to link this incident to the arson in Alexandra Road but police are keeping an open mind."
Electrical engineer Ruca Faria, 32, was asleep at the terraced house in Alexandra Road when his smoke alarm went off.
Mr Faria then battled to put the fire out himself.
He said: "I opened the door but as the outside of the door was on fire, more of the flames came inside, so I shut it again.
"I chucked a bucket of water at it but it didn't do much, so I just kept going.
"The door is thick plastic so the outer frame didn't burn, but the panels had burnt right the way through.
"I must have thrown two dozen buckets of water on it before it went out-I was rushing back and forth."
A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after an incident in Fulmar Lane, Wellingborough, where four men were forced to flee from a house.
The man is due to be interviewed about the incident in due course.
