Man, 64, attacked and robbed by vicious intruders
Burglars grabbed a 64-year-old man by the neck, threw him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him before holding him hostage while they stole cash from his bank account.
The thugs demanded Charles McKay's money and his bank card, before one ran to a nearby cash machine withdrew 300 which he was planning to give to his son for his wedding in May.
The horrific ordeal at his flat in Brooke House, Corporation Street, Corby, took place two days before a 90-year-old was attacked in a similar incident at his home in Harringworth.
During the attack, Mr McKay was told he would have his teeth ripped out if he raised his voice to the intruders.
One of the men, described as in his 20s, white and with a Corby accent, sat on Mr McKay, a forklift driver, while his accomplice ran to a cash machine.
He held a mobile phone to Mr McKay's ear while the man demanded his pin
number at the other end of the line.
Mr McKay said: "I thought they were going to kick my head in.
"They grabbed me and kicked me on the legs, which is when I fell to the ground.
"They told me they wanted cash and they took 35, then said they wanted my bank cards and started kicking my legs.
"They said they would come back and get me if I did not give them the right PIN. If I'd lost my rag with them I would have ended up in hospital."
Mr McKay is now living with a family member away from the town centre because he is too scared to return home at night.
And he is even going to put the home where he has lived for 12 years up for sale because of the attack.
His daughter Tracey McNeil said: "My dad could have been killed that night. He has problems remembering his PIN sometimes and I dread to think what would have happened if he hadn't been able to give them the right one."
It is thought the attackers got in through a broken gate at the back of the block of flats, and could not be seen on CCTV as the lights outside Mr McKay's home are not working.
Police have footage of one of the men they think is involved in the attack as he used the stolen bank card, which was later thrown away.
The attack happened in the early hours of Tuesday, March 1, just days before a 90-year-old was attacked at his home in Harringworth.
The pensioner used his walking stick to fight off the two burglars who pinned him down while they searched his pockets.
Despite the similar circumstances police say they don't believe the two
cases are linked and that attacks of this kind are still very rare.
Anyone with information on either attack is asked to contact police on 03000 111 222.
