Licensing disupte closes music venue

A licensing dispute has forced one of the county's main music venues to close for two weeks leading to the cancellations of a number of high-profile gigs.

The Roadmender, previously bailed out at the eleventh hour by the Purplehaus Group after council funding was withdrawn, has been forced to shut its doors for the next fortnight.

A spokeswoman for Roadmender said: "Due to a change in directorship of Roadmender (Northampton) Ltd we are unable to trade under our old premises licence and are awaiting completion of the new licence.

"We will be closed for 10 working days and aim to reopen Friday, June 5 for the New Cassettes album launch.

"Further schedule information will follow. We aim to reschedule all affected events during the next 10 days, information for this will be posted on our website."

The venue was due to host a performance by Operator Six at student indie night Sk!nt Disco last night but organisers were forced to pull the plug.

Gigs by the likes of Ben's Brother, Kid British and Uptown Decadence Unit are in the process of being rearranged.

Johnny Foreigner will now play the venue on July 3.
