Larry on track despite stormy weather

CORBY runner Larry Wise narrowly missed some of the worst storms for 30 years when he completed a 23-mile run in Devon on Sunday.

The 52-year-old from Dresden Close, Danesholme, is raising cash for the town's Lakelands Day Care Hospice by running seven marathons in just a few months.

On Sunday he completed his fifth race at Seaton when he ran over the beach, hills and around boulders in rain and sunshine in a time of four hours and 11 minutes.

The RS Components warehouse worker said: "You name it we had it. But it was a good challenge and now I'm looking forward to my sixth run at the London Marathon next month.

"We woke up on Monday morning to the worst storms they have had in Seaton for 30 years."

Wife Nora said: "He enjoyed the weekend and did very well considering he was running into the wind.

"We got home OK so there was no problems and everyone enjoyed themselves."

Larry has already raised more than 1,200 for the hospice and will be completing his gruelling challenge with the London Marathon in April and the 32-mile Dartmoor Discovery in June.

He has already completed a 15-mile run in Cambridgeshire, a 15-mile run near Southend, an 18-and-a-half-mile run in Stamford and a 20-mile run in Essex this year.

A special disco has also been arranged at Corby Irish Centre, in Patrick Road, on April 19, and organisers are hoping to raise about 2,000 on top of the money Mr Wise has already raised.

Anyone who wants to support him can contact Jo Plant, fundraising manager at Lakelands, on 01536 747755.
