Kettering teenager keeps her mum's spirit alive
A 13-year-old will keep her mother's fun-loving spirit alive when she holds a party night in her memory.
Emma Lewis died at the age of 37 from breast cancer after initially beating the disease and having a mastectomy.
But her daughter Summer will do her proud when she holds the fundraising event on June 20, just days after what would have been her mum's birthday.
Summer now lives with her grandmother Diana Lewis in Neale Avenue, Kettering.
The Montsaye Community College pupil said: "My mum loved dressing up, singing and having a good time and I wanted to organise this in her memory.
"Her birthday is coming up so I thought we should organise something in her memory.
"I want to celebrate with all of her friends."
At the party night Summer and others will take to the stage to perform karaoke, which her mum regularly enjoyed.
Mrs Lewis said: "Emma always loved singing and dancing so that's why Summer wanted to do something like this.
"They were so close, which makes it even harder."
Summer and her cousin have already taken part in the Marie Curie Daffodil Run and she is looking forward to raising more money for the same charity
The party night will take place at the Lakeside Bar at Kettering Conference Centre and it will include a 1960s band, karaoke and disco.
The event will also be held in memory of Mrs Lewis' brother-in-law, Deric Chandler, a former porter at Kettering General Hospital who also died from cancer.
The party night takes place at the Conference Centre in Thurston Drive from 8pm.
There will be a 1960s band, disco and raffle.
Tickets cost 5 for adults and 3 for children.
