Kettering florist wins gold at Chelsea Flower Show
A florist from the north of the county worked through the night to scoop a gold award at this year's Chelsea Flower Show.
Sandra Naylor of the Garden Room in Hawthorn Road, Kettering worked through the night on Wednesday to complete the eight foot by four foot display featuring roses and pianese.
Mrs Naylor, with help from Joan Spencer from the Kettering and District Flower Club, picked up the top prize in the flower arranging competition.
She said: "About 15 years ago I took part in the competition and won a bronze award and said never again.
"We were given the theme of Lets Celebrate so decided to do one for
weddings called From This Day Forward.
"We worked through the night to get it finished and completed it at 6am
ready for the judging at 7am.
"I am very proud."
The display was created from an array of flowers commonly found in gardens across Britain.
The pair, who are both members of the town's flower club, nearly missed out on the competition after getting lost in London in their van, which was donated last minute from Thrapston Garage to help take down all the equipment needed for the contest.
Mrs Nelson has had plenty of practice running up to the lucrative show, running her own business for 18 years.
The pair were up against seven other teams in their category, featuring some of the best competitors from around the world.
More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend this year's Chelsea Flower show, staged by the Royal Horticultural Society.
