Kennels death: Teenager died from gunshot
A teenager found dead at a hunt kennels died from a gunshot wound to the head, police said today.
Jack Burgess, 16, was found at the Grafton Hunt's kennels in Paulerspury, Northamptonshire, last Monday.
Today, Northamptonshire Police said a post mortem held this morning at Leicester Royal Infirmary found the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the head.
A spokesman said an inquest would be opened shortly.
The teenager's death rocked his local community last week, leaving members of the hunt, where Jack was an apprentice, devastated.
Grafton Hunt spokeswoman Phillippa White said he had started his apprenticeship after leaving school in July, but had been involved with the kennels for the last five years.
Speaking last week, she said: "We really thought he had a great future ahead of him.
"He was well-respected in the kennels, he had a joke and a laugh with everyone.
"He was great at his job, we are absolutely gobsmacked and the staff are obviously devastated as they all worked so closely together."
The hunt's opening meet went ahead on Saturday with the blessing of Jack's family in tribute to the youngster's tragic death.
