Jason Donovan coming to Wellingborough

CHART-TOPPER, actor and 1980s heart-throb Jason Donovan is due to perform at a free party in the park event taking place this summer.

The star, famous for songs including Especially For You, which he performed with Kylie Minogue, will perform at Wellingborough's Party In the Park on Sunday, July 6.

It is hoped the sun will shine on the former Neighbours star, who took part in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and ITV soap Echo Beach.

Sue Bull, events and promotions manager for Wellingborough Council, which is organising the event, said: "We are overjoyed to have booked a star as big as Jason Donovan, and we're sure that everyone planning to come to the party will be really excited by the news."

The party will kick off at midday in Croyland Park, and an afternoon and evening of music will follow.

Organisers have got Jason, who is planning to release his first new album for 15 years this autumn, down for the 3pm slot.

Anna Ferreira-Gomes, 29, from Queensway, Wellingborough, said: "I am old enough to remember him from the first time round, but I think seeing him when he was on I'm A Celebrity made me realise how much he has aged, but I'm still interested."

Wellingborough has attracted other stars to the town, including X-Factor finalist Kimberly Southwick, contestants 4Sure and actor Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell in EastEnders.
