It's your chance to tread the boards

Anyone who has ever fancied treading the boards is invited to audition for the chance to be part of this year's community production at The Castle theatre.

The community production this year will be A Midsummer Night's Dream and will be performed from June 8 to June 12.

Members of the public are being invited to attend workshops on March 21 and March 28 if they are keen to have their moment on stage and be part of the production.

Scores of people took part in last year's community production, Whistle Down The Wind, at the Wellingborough theatre.

The Castle's artistic director, Nik Ashton, directed last year's show and will also direct this production.

He said: "I think this year's show will be different. Being a Shakespeare text it's different from a musical, but we are going to do what we can to make it as accessible as possible, with music and dance.

"Though it will be based on the original text I hope it will be a reinvention of it."

He said he would encourage anyone interested in taking part to come along to the workshops.

Mr Ashton said: "Just come along and give it a go. Don't be put off by anything because the workshop is an opportunity to have a go and ask questions."

He said feedback from members of the public who took part in Whistle Down The Wind had been very positive.

He said: "We do an evaluation at the end of the show and last year the feedback was overwhelmingly positive – the skills you learn are associated with performing, but also a lot of people said they could transfer the skills into their job, skills like building confidence and team work."

Anyone interested in attending the workshops can download information at www.thecastle.org.uk.
