Illegal immigrant sentenced for false ID
An illegal immigrant who was caught using a fake passport and National Insurance card has been jailed for 12 months.
Femi Kolaranmi, of Albert Road, Wellingborough, appeared at Northampton Crown Court yesterday.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to charges of possessing the passport and card on February 16 this year and also one charge of fraud between August 2008 and February 2010.
The court heard that Kolaranmi was caught by recruitment agency Blue Arrow when he asked if he could change his bank details.
Prosecuting, Jenna Latchford said: "The defendant had been working at Blue Arrow recruitment for 18 months in the name Richard Carol.
"He asked to alter his bank details and was asked to provide a passport and National Insurance card.
"Staff noticed the picture on the passport had been altered."
The company alerted police and Kolaranmi was arrested.
Miss Latchford added: "He admitted he came to the UK four years ago in the back of a ship.
"He had obtained false documents to work in the UK."
In mitigation, the court heard that Kolaranmi, who is originally from Cameroon, had no family or friends left in the county and that he feared what would happen to him if he returned.
Judge Ian Alexander QC sentenced him to 12 months in prison for each offence, to run concurrently.
