Highland Gathering to be subject of show
Corby's Highland Gathering will be the subject of a BBC Scotland documentary into the links between the town and Scotland.
The gathering, which is the largest Highland event outside of Scotland, will take place on Sunday, and will see thousands of revellers descend on the town.
It is not known yet when the footage shot at the gathering will be screened for the BBC north of the border.
But Corby was chosen to film at due to the links between the town and Scotland and for the fact it is understood to be the only place in England other than London, which holds a regular gathering.
The show kicks off at 9am with the All England Highland Dancing Championship, where dancers from Australia, Ireland, Scotland and all over England, will compete in a Highland Dancing event against some of the best competitors in the world.
Then at 1pm the pipe band contest begins with a special performance from the Corby Grampian Pipe Band.
Tim Shoveller from East Midlands Trains will be this year's Chieftain and a main sponsor.
He said: "It's a great honour to be carrying out the role of Chieftain at this year's Highland Games.
"It's hard to believe that the new railway station at Corby has only been open for just over a year as we now seem to be a real part of the community.
"We've made some big improvements to the train service recently which we're keen to tell people about at the Highland Games, such as faster trains to London and a brand new northbound service to Derby, which
allows people to connect with trains to the North of England."
On the day there will be an on site funfair, charity side stalls, tombolas and live bands and entertainment at each of the pubs in Corby Old Village.
Pam Johnson, of Viking Way, Corby, said: "There is always a buzz in Corby over that weekend and it is important we celebrate our links and heritage from Scotland."
Roads around the village area will be closed from 8am and reopen after the massed bands at 4.30pm, and it is hoped people will then stay in the village to watch the World Cup Final.
Most of the activities will be held on the Charter Field in Corby Old Village and its surroundings.
Entry for adults is 2 and children get in for free.
Community groups can book stalls for the event by calling Mark Pengelly
on 07760 434896.
