Heather Mills opens new shop in Corby

Vegetarians and vegans in Corby preparing for the festive season have an early Christmas present.

The food company owned by former model Heather Mills opened the doors to a new shop on its site selling its range of products.

The Redwood Wholefood Company, based in Burkitt Road, on the Earlstrees Industrial Estate, was able to welcome its customers face-to-face at its first store yesterday.

The business had enough space to open the new venture after expanding to adjoining premises this autumn.

Lee Rockingham, its finance director, said the company decided to open a shop because of a lack of refrigeration facilities at health food shops in the area.

He said: "People in Corby have been asking us for ages if they can buy directly from us but in the past we just haven't had the space.

"We took on the unit next door which has doubled the size of our factory and given us space for our very own company shop for the first time."

In the past the company only sold its products through health food shops and supermarkets and online.

Ahead of Christmas, the new shop's customers were able to stock up on meat-free 'turkey roasts', streaky style 'rashers' and its veggie sausages, which won a Vegetarian Society award last month.

Mr Rockingham added: "Before it was quite difficult for local people to get hold of our products because they need to be kept chilled.

"We're absolutely delighted that people in our home town will now be able to get all our different foods right on their doorstep."

In September Ms Mills told the Evening Telegraph of her company's plans to branch out into 18 countries abroad boosting is presence in Corby and spoke of her commitment to the town.

The company sells more than 50 products under the Vegideli, Cheezly and Cheatin' brand names.

The shop is also selling LoveBites – the new vegan cookbook published by Ms Mills, who now works as a charity campaigner and businesswoman.

Its proceeds will be donated to a charity.

An official opening, with the company's celebrity owner, is expected to

take place in the new year.

The shop is open Tuesday to Friday between 10am and 4pm.
