Two friends have lost their locks – and plenty more hair with it – in the name of charity.

Paul Young and Martin Curran both had their heads shaved, chests waxed and legs shaved to raise money for Ourspace, a £1.4m appeal to create a unit for cancer patients up to the age of 24 at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Mr Young’s sister Karen, of Bulwell Green, Corby, is battling a rare form of leukaemia and is being treated at the hospital.

Mr Young, 26, and Mr Curran, 23, both also of Corby, were shaved and waxed at the Greedy Pig cafe in Rockingham Road yesterday.

Mr Young said: “It is now very cold and feels very strange, but it is all for a good case.

“It was not that painful. The worst part was losing my long hair. I had been growing it for six years.”

Karen started fundraising for the appeal with friend Siobhan Buzzard, who sadly died last year of the same condition.

They met while having treatment in Leicester.
