Getting in the fighting spirit in Higham Ferrers

Pupils from The Ferrers Specialist Arts College in Higham were given a helping hand in their history lessons from Second World War veterans and actors from the English Civil War.

Year 10 pupils were visited by Home Front veterans from the Second World War.

Assistant principal Sue Jenkins said: "These talks have proved to be a good link to the past, interesting for the students to find out about their local area and heritage and a massive help for them in writing their coursework assignments."

Year 8 pupils also learned about life as a Civil War soldier during a talk and demonstration day given by members of The Sealed Knot Society.

They listened to a talk and also handled armour and weapons which were used during the Civil War.
