Gambling plan for card shop

A FORMER card shop could be turned into a bookies if plans are given the go-ahead.

Proposals have been put forward to convert the empty shop at 30 High Street in Kettering into a betting office.

Applicant Amarjit Mann has submitted plans to Kettering Council and a report by development company Ablethird Ltd states: “A loss of a potential retail unit would be harmful in an area where retail use is strongly supported by the local plan, but no serious offers have come in the last year for retail use in that unit.

“We are conscious that the use in question is sometimes regarded as controversial.”

However the report says hundreds planning appeals have found in favour of such applications over the course of the last 25 years.

Earlier this month, Mr Mann and Ablethird Ltd had a planning application turned down to convert the former Woolwich Building Society building into a gaming centre.
