Five-day sale to mark anniversary
A department store is holding a five-day sale as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
Peter Crisp, in High Street, Rushden, has been holding a series of events throughout the year to mark its anniversary and yesterday it launched its five-day sale with a 20 per cent discount on everything in store.
Owner Julia Roberts said: "The sale is just one of our many events to celebrate our 50th anniversary and we decided to hold it for five days – one for every decade we have been open.
"The launch went really well yesterday. We had about 1,000 people through the doors in the morning and it was really buzzing with customers buying everything from gardening tools and lighting to gifts.
"We are hoping people will come along and help us celebrate. We have lots of new stock and tempting offers, as well as air-conditioning and treats in the coffee shop."
Peter Crisp opened in the town on September 1, 1959, and over the years it transformed from being a small agricultural ironmongers into a store of 15 departments, with a reputation for excellence in merchandise and customer service.
Peter Crisp died in May 1996 and the business was taken over by his eldest daughter, Julia Roberts, and wife, Rosemary, who are determined to continue to provide good, old-fashioned service and quality goods.
Other events this year include a book signing with Rushden author Bob Caddick and an exhibition by local artist Keith Hill.
The next big event will be held in September when celebrity interior designer Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen will appear. The sale runs from 11am to 4pm for the rest of the week. For details call the store on 01933 356424.
